What happened at Loopy today? July 24, 2006
Hi, this is Vicki, owner of Loopy Yarns and I’m going to regularly write to you about what is going on here. I have a feeling I’m not alone in wondering what goes on in a yarn store. What are some of the routine events? There must e funny stories. Why are particular yarns and colors selected? What is so frustrating about owning and working in a yarn store that makes some people not very friendly?
Today, was a good day both in terms of sales and the customers that came into the store. What made today particularly unique is that most of the customers (probably 75%) were from out of town. We had people from Alaska, California, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin. They were at all levels of experience. Some newbies, some branding out from scarves, and some very experienced knitters with beautiful projects to show off (and don’t we all love to see what other people are doing?). Most of the time was busy and noisy. However, we had a lull between 3:30 and 4:30 when no one came in or called. Then it all started up again!
The lull time was fun, too, because a couple of customers were sitting on the couch working on their projects. It was great to sit and knit with them AND to find out more about them, their jobs, and other interests.
The only snag in the day was that our swift is still broken. I used another one that isn’t snugly attached to the counter and isn’t as efficient, but at least it’s something until a new swift comes in.
UPS brought us a couple of small boxes. One from Trendsetters had new patterns (including that cute jacket made out of Mosiac), purse forms (you’ll have to come in and see to understand), and scarf netting (you’ll have to see this, too).
